Biography

I am an interdisciplinary writer, bookmaker and thinker expanding the possibilities of knowledge production from the Arab region. As a professional practitioner, I have more than a decade-long
experience in bilingual content development (Arabic-English), art book making and editing, independent and non-traditional publishing, as well as context-specific research in the Arab and Islamic worlds and the South-South cultural sphere.

My interests lie in cross-platform publishing, bilingual knowledge design, print culture histories, subversive aesthetics and critical thinking. I lead and head the publications for Sharjah Art Foundation, a contemporary arts organization, and the annual art book fair, Focal Point. I am also a contributing editor of Architecture and Design titles at Kaph Books, an Arab-based publishing house, alongside freelance editorial and consulting work for various publishing projects. I have worked with art publishing houses such as Koenig, Hatje Cantz, Skira, Thames and Hudson, Duke University Press as well as global contemporary art organizations and museums including MoMa, MACBA, Jeu de Paume, IMMA, Bonniers Konsthall and others.

As an independent practitioner and thinker, I work with deep-time philosophies and totemic environmental practices, spatial and urban studies, gender and identity, Islamic literature and history, speculation and hyperreality, and material philosophy. My research results in narratives, printed matter and artwork which sit at the cross-section of experimental publishing, guerilla-academia, and phantom authorship. Some of these are authored under my own editorial practice, hyperhouse. I have also co-founded the independent publishing projects, THE STATE, ZIGG, and Dubailand.

My writings can be be found in my own and other books, and I have contributed to zines, magazines, exhibition catalogues, and academic journals. My work has been exhibited in Doha Design Biennial (2024) Porto Design Biennial (2023), Lahore Biennial (2013), Oslo Architecture Triennial (2016), and Lisbon Architecture Triennial (2014). I have lectured and presented at NYU Abu Dhabi, National University of Singapore, New Furturism Rotterdam, CA2M Madrid, Art Jameel Dubai, Strelka Institute Moscow, Studio X - Amman / GSAPP, and others.
